BACKGROUND / From North was previously known as Platinoro. A reasonably well known brand in jewellery segment, co-founded by jewellery designer Pekka Piekäinen in the early 90's, which needed a total renovation in design and business approach.
When we first walked into this old smithery in Turku, Finland, it was inevitably clear, the approach for the case was painted right there in front of our eyes. Most of the time the manufacturing methods aren't too interesting to watch and monitor, but here, where the jewellery was still made by smiths like it has been done for hundreds of years. This had to be brought into daylight – and so we did.
From strategy to approach
to naming and design
We wanted to create a name that emphasizes the origins of this 20 year old company. The new name, From North, and the industrial overall look fitted in perfectly with the desired image. The product names were created to fit into this concept. They are named after the raw material, for example silver's code is AG/47.
To serve the chosen strategy of emphasizing the process of manufacturing the jewellery, we created creative strategy which was followed naming, tone-of-voice, identity concept with packaging, websites and photographic style. We did pretty well didn't we.

We were asked to be a part of a team renewing Finnairs corporate identity as a creative director. We designed a new, fresh, scandinavian image for this iconic Finnish brand.
The work featured a vast amount of solutions from reshaping the logo to the public spaces in Helsinki-Vantaa airport.

Sports
We're working on new business concepts for Kiira Korpi – one of the best figure skaters in the world.
We started by studying carefully the brands of top level athletes and found out that in figure skating, there's an enormous underlying potential – not only limited to one person only but - in the whole sport to gain popularity. Perhaps even taking it as far as Red Bull has taken extreme sports. We're currently working on new business models to utilize the image we've created with Kiira.
When we launched "the new Kiira" it was featured on the national television, and several magazines. Her site had over 60.000 unique visitors during the day of the launch and she has already been able to sign new sponsorship deals. Her site is open at www.kiirakorpi.fi
